David Hoyt was born in Tasmania / Lutruwita in 1983. He grew up in Lapoinya, on a bush block bordering the pristine takayna  / Tarkine wilderness in remote Northwest Tasmania. In 2004 he moved to Melbourne / Naarm, Victoria where he commenced his art studies. He completed a Diploma of art in 2008 and a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art: Painting) at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) in 2010.

David is a landscape artist and has a deep appreciation and respect for the natural world. His work is primarily about connection to place and centres in and around places he has lived for significant amounts of time. 

David has lived with his artist wife and three children in Penshurst, Victoria since 2014.
